This week we are speaking about self worth. By not knowing your self worth you can miss out on your blessings. Jesus found us worthy enough to die for. When a person does not know their self worth, they can be abused and devalued. Thankfully God made a way for those in Christ.

This program covers the following Scriptures from the Amplified Classic version (AMPC): Isaiah 62:2-4, 2 Chronicles 7:14-16, Romans 5:8, Isaiah 49:15, Genesis 1:27, Psalms 103:2-22, John 1:12, Romans 12:2, Isaiah 61:3, John 10:10.

Pastor Catrice teaches on this topic this week.

(Transcribed by TurboScribe.ai. Go Unlimited to remove this message.) Hey, and welcome back to another episode of A Touch of God. My name is Catrice. I will be bringing the message for you today. So today we'll be discussing what's blocking my blessing. For those of you who want to follow along with us in the Bible, you can use the Amplified Classic. So last week we were talking about what's blocking my blessing part two, but before we begin, I just wanted to note something. This program is for those looking to be in Christ and not just visiting Jesus. It is for those who want permanent life change and not to fix momentary problems, but to be translated from the kingdom of darkness in every area of their lives. Amen. So it's for those who are searching for life change because they do not like how they've been living and they want to try Jesus. So last week in what's blocking my blessing part two, we talked about the things that can block our blessings by having idols in our lives. Idols can be the extreme worship of a person, place, or a thing. When a person or a thing replaces Jesus in someone's life, it is an idol. They are going to that person or thing to fill needs, desires, and relationships in their life instead of building a relationship with Jesus through the Bible reading, prayer, fasting, and doing the work of the ministry. So I just wanted to read a disclaimer. The idea of this broadcast is not to condemn, but to save those who are lost or not aware that they are lost. The Lord has a heart for sinners, no matter what the sin. The idea is to stop the sin so that that person does not pay the price for the sin they committed. What does that mean? It means when a person turns to Jesus in true heartfelt posture of repentance, all sins are wiped away and paid by Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. That person is made new, a new creation and noun. They need to stay in the word daily, pray daily, continue to stay away from sinful behavior, renew their mind in the word by reading, memorizing, and living according to the word. When you become a new creation, behold, all things are new and the old is passed away. So we want to remember that. So this week in What's Blocking My Blessing Part 3, we will be discussing self-worth and how it can affect the blessing in our lives. Self-worth can block our blessings because you might not know that God made you worthy. Because of this, you spend your whole life believing you're not good enough. When your blessing is right in front of you, you think what others think, label you or label you as, and how others see you. You miss your blessing because you are paying attention to what others think about you instead of what God said about you. So we'll be looking at what is self-worth? Who or what determines self-worth? What happens when your self-worth is low? How does God see us different from how the world sees us? So let's look at what is self-worth, and we're going to look at the synonyms for self-worth. And so synonyms mean the same definition, but it's different words to express the same word. So self-worth, a sense of someone's own value as a human being, self-esteem, a confidence and a satisfaction in oneself, self-respect, a proper respect for oneself as a human being, regard for one's own standing or position, feeling of self-worth, a lack of self-worth, helping to build, develop self-worth people with low, greater, high self-worth. Example in a sentence. Too often, college students base their self-worth solely on their GPA, which is their school grades. Who or what determines self-worth? Well, it depends on who you believe in and trust to allow yourself to be given worth or value. You would think it is a person who determines their own self-worth. Many things play a role in determining self-worth in our lives. Let's take a look at how the world creates our self-worth versus how God sees us. A person can always be searching to be good enough to prove themselves to others. Depending on where you live in the world, self-worth can start to develop from many different things at a young age. Here's a list of things that you can think about in your life that can help you examine self-worth. Where does self-worth or where can self-worth be developed from? It can be developed from your parents, your sisters, your brothers, TV, social media, books, magazines, teachers, schools, friends, groups you want to be in, labels put on culture, religion, race, location. As you thought about some of the things on that list, make note of what affected you. So take time and think about have your parents affected you as far as what you think about yourself, perhaps a sister or brother, TV, social media, just the things that I mentioned on the list. Also, make note of what was said to you that affected your perspective on yourself. Now put down some thoughts that occurred in your life of yourself and when they occurred. Example, a person once had to take school pictures. The photographer called them up one by one. They placed them in a chair like everyone else. Then with this one particular student, the photographer called them a burnt pancake. In another example, a child is getting ready to play soccer and a teammate says that their legs are really pale and glowing. In another example, a girl overhears a group of guys saying that she is not sexy enough to take to a dance party. And last example, a boy looks at TV and hears that people with his skin color steal things. All of the above statements can affect someone's idea of how they should be seen from the world's point of view. Self-worth in the world comes from others' opinions sometimes of you. An opinion is what someone thinks of you and how they see you. And what they think you deserve or telling you your value to them. Everyone has an opinion. How can we avoid someone's opinion if everyone has them? One way to avoid that is to not put your worth in people's hands because when you put your worth in people's hands, then you're giving them control and authority over your value and your worth. And when they speak, you're taking that in because you're trusting in what they're saying because you've given them authority to speak into you. Let's look at how God sees us, right? How does God see us different from how the world sees us? Our self-worth is not based on someone else's opinion of us. Self-worth is not based on what we think of us. Self-worth is based on who God says we are. So those in the kingdom of God who are believers, the self-worth is based on who God says that they are. God created us and loves his creation. It's as if when you make a painting, others will see what they want about that painting, but you will love your creation because you created it to be what you want it to be. What did God intend for us to be? Well, just like the painting God created us and he loves what he created us to be and what he intended us to be, right? So who does God say we are in Christ? Noting that through salvation, we become a new creation. God says in Isaiah 62 verses 2 to 4, And the nation shall see your righteousness and vindication, your righteousness and justice, not your own, but his ascribed to you. And all kings shall behold your salvation and glory. And you shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name. You shall also be so beautiful and prosperous as to be thought of as a crown of glory and honor in the hand of the Lord and a royal diadem exceedingly beautiful in the hand of your God. Verse 4, you shall no more be termed forsaken, nor shall your land be called desolate anymore, but you shall be called Hephzibah, which means my delight is in her. And your land shall be called Bilal, that means married, for the Lord delights in you and your land shall be married, owned and protected by the Lord. Let's take a look at 2 Chronicles 7, 14. This is a message to God's people about instructions that he's given us so that we can walk in him and not in anyone else. So if my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. Verse 15, now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to prayer offered in this place. So God is saying when we turn to God as his believers for our self-worth, he wants us to be humble, to pray, to seek, to crave, and require of necessity his face and to turn from any wicked ways, right? That's what God is telling us about who we are. We're people who have turned from our wicked ways and that we pray, seek, and crave and require the Lord. And when we do this, he's going to hear our prayers in this place where we're doing this. Verse 16, for I have chosen and sanctified, set apart for holy use this house, that my name may be here forever and my eyes and my heart will be here perpetually. So that's who we are. We are people who ascribe to the Lord. We lean on trust in him, and he will be in this place perpetually waiting on us to listen to our prayers when we position ourselves and humble ourselves. How much does God love us? Love can make a difference in self-worth. So in Romans 5, verse 8, but God demonstrates his own love towards us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. So this means while we're in the midst of our sin, God already has a heart for us because we're his creation and he's just wanting us to get rid of sin. But it doesn't mean that he does not love us. He loves us. He just doesn't want us to be filled with bad things, but to separate us from the bad works. Let's look at Isaiah 49, 15, and the Lord answered, can a woman forget her nursing child that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. So this is God saying that he's comparing it to a woman forgetting her child. A woman cannot forget her child in most circumstances, but God is comparing that to that kind of love that should be there and saying that he's never going to forget about us. We are so loved that God made us in his image. Let's look at Genesis 1, 27. So God created man in his own image. In the image and likeness of God, he created him male and female. He created them. We are created in God's image. So there is no darkness in the Lord and he created us in his image because that's how much he loves us, right? And that helps us with our self-worth because if we are like God, then who is anyone to say that we are this or that because we are made in the creator's image. So if you were ever told that you were nothing, right? Let's look and see what God would say. What is God saying about someone telling you that you're nothing? Because someone who would say that you're nothing, they're trying to affect your self-worth. But what does God say? God says that you're a new creation in Christ. So let's go to Psalms 103 and we're going to read verses 2 to 22. Bless, affectionately, gratefully praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not one of all his benefits. So God is about to tell us in Psalms 103, how much he loves us, how he cares for us and what he's done for us because he finds us worthy in his eyes. Verse three, who forgives every one of all your iniquities, who heals each of all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, who beautifies, dignifies and crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercy. Verse five, who satisfies your mouth, your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation with good, so that your youth renewed is like the eagles, strong, overcoming, soaring. Verse six, the Lord executes righteousness and justice, not for me only, but for all who are oppressed. He made known his ways of righteousness and justice to Moses, his acts of the children of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy and loving kindness. He will not always chide or be contending, neither will he keep his anger forever or hold a grudge. He has not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. Let's just pause right there. God has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us for our iniquities. Wow. Sometimes I know I've done things that I know that I should be punished for, and yet God has grace because he is loving me, but he does want me to stop and repent and turn away from the sin. Let's continue with verse 11. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great are his mercy and loving kindness towards those who reverently and worshipfully fear him. As far as the east from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Verse 13, as a father loves and pities his children, so the Lord loves and pities those who fear him with reverence, worship, and awe. For he knows our frame, he earnestly remembers and imprints on his heart that we are dust. As of man, his days are as grass, as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over and it is gone, and its place shall know it no more. But the mercy and loving kindness of the Lord are from everlasting to everlasting upon those who reverently and worshipfully fear him and his righteousness to children's children. To such as keep his covenants, hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it, and to those who earnestly remember his commandments, to do them imprinting them on their hearts. The Lord has established his throne in the heavens and his kingdom rules over all. Bless, affectionately, gratefully, praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his commandments, hearkening to the voice of his word. Verse 21, bless, affectionately, gratefully, praise the Lord, all his hosts, you his ministers who do his pleasure, bless the Lord, all his works in all places of his dominion. Bless, affectionately, gratefully, praise the Lord, oh my soul. So these are things that God wants us to know that he set aside for us to really help our self-worth in him and he's directing us on how he loves us. Let's take a look at John 1, 12. But to as many as did receive and welcome him, Jesus, he gave the authority, power, privilege, right to become the children of God. That is to those who believe in, adhere to, trust in, and rely on his name. God is showing us that he's with us. He's building up our self-worth by pouring all of these things into us so that we can have a solid foundation and know who we are in Christ. What happens when your worth is low? When we do not know our own value, we can be used, abused, overlooked, because we don't know our worth. In some cases, you can even be told that you are not worth anything. Do not allow the words of the enemy to determine your value and your worth. It's time to say what Jesus says about you. It's time to be who God says you are. So let me just tell you a quick story. A man takes his car to get fixed at a local mechanic shop. The mechanic says that it is his alternator that needs fixing and lights. The man is upset by the amount the mechanic charged for the alternator labor installation fee. It all seemed four times the amount he would normally pay. The man decided to learn about cars and takes a class to learn more. Six months later, the man has an issue with his car. He takes it in again to the same place and allows the same mechanic to give him an estimate on what the problem is. Once again, the man was given an estimate that was four times the amount that he would be paying or should pay. This time, the man pointed out to the mechanic what the problem actually was. It was just in need of an oil change and coolant. Nowhere near the problem that the mechanic said or the amount the mechanic was asking for. What changed with this man? The man knew who he was and how to fix his own car. He could no longer be lied to, devalued, or charged and pay abusive prices. We all need to know who we are and learn the information God has provided so we know our self-worth and are not taken advantage of. The battle often can be in the mind for self-worth. We need to renew our minds to the word and declare who God says we are. In renewing your mind, let's look at Romans 12, verse two, do not be conformed to this world, this age, fashioned after and adapted to its external superficial customs, but be transformed, changed by the entire renewal of your mind by its new ideals and its new attitude so that you may prove for yourselves what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which good and acceptable and perfect in his sight for you. When we renew our minds to the word of God, we remember who he made us to be. Some homework for us, get up every day and speak out the blessings of God over your life and over your day. Tell your day what God says is going to happen. Use the scripture to declare his word over your mind. Example, God did not give me the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. I have peace, love, joy, faith, goodness, gentleness, kindness, self-control. I prosper as my soul prospers. I command you soul to prosper. I command you soul to praise the Lord. God has given me the garment of praise for heaviness. So read Isaiah 61, the entire chapter, because that's going to tell you more about who God made you to be and to help your self-worth. God cares about each and every one of you. He doesn't want you to be cheated of your inheritance. But when you don't know who you are and when you don't know your self-worth, sometimes things can happen to you. Not because God wants those things to happen to you, but like the story of the mechanic that I told you about, when we know our self-worth and we know the value and we understand how things work, people can't take advantage of us because we have wisdom and we have knowledge because we've been studying about who we are, right? The enemy, remember in John 10, 10, the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. So the thief can try to come into your life to steal, but he can't steal what you know is already yours. It's like somebody coming up to you and saying, that shirt that you're wearing, that's mine. Someone who purchased the shirt, worked hard to buy the shirt, they'd be like, no, this shirt is mine. I'm not giving you this shirt and you're not going to convince me that it's yours because I know it's mine. So get out of here, right? But somebody who they're not even sure where the shirt came from. They just found it in their room. They put on the shirt and somebody who comes along, they're like, oh, that's my shirt. They might just give them that shirt because they don't have the foundation about where things come from and they don't have ownership over the things in their life because they haven't studied to show themselves approved and to have wisdom and knowledge and understanding. And God doesn't want that. God wants you to stand, stand in him, stand in Christ and stand on his word, which is a stable foundation. So right now, let's just thank God for who we are. Let's just thank God for another opportunity that we can become stronger in the word. Amen. And that by knowing who we are, we can decree and declare a thing and it shall be so. God, we just thank you for each and every person who is listening, Lord, that this word would just hit the bull's eye and to touch the bull's eye in their heart, their eyes and ears would be open to your kingdom and to the inheritance that you already have waiting for them when they activate wisdom in their life and begin to read your word and to begin to grow and to strengthen themselves. Thank you, Lord, for helping them to move forward. Thank you, Lord, that they will then know who they are and their self-worth will skyrocket because they'll know who they are and they'll never be abused in such a way again. Amen.
